about

As a youth Jason loved hearing Oscar “Red” Wilson (b. 1920) of Bakersville, NC, play fiddle accompanied by Celo neighbors Bruce Greene on banjo and Rob Levin on guitar. Red wrote a handful of great tunes, including this one named for a storied nearby community that was once was hunting ground for both Cherokee and Catawba Indians. In 1780, Grassy Creek also served as a resting point for the hundreds of “Overmountain Men” en route to fight the British at Kings Mountain. In 1992, it was home to one of the best skateboarding spots that rural Mitchell Co. had to offer.
