about

We were honored to record this special tune with Art on his 79th birthday. He got it from Missouri fiddler Earl Murphy (b. 1917), who moved to Athens, GA in the 1980s and became friends with Art, Charlie, and Nancy. Murphy apparently learned this one from his dad, Walker Murphy, as a boy, but he couldn’t recall the title. According to Art, Murphy’s grandson Andy Carlson (a highly-accomplished bluegrass fiddler and music professor) suggested the tune be named after the Missouri county where Murphy was born and raised, and that’s what stuck.
